2009年11月20日，ALMA(The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array)的3个12米天线在智利北部海拔5000m高的ALMA天文台，实现了相位闭合。这项工作成果是里程碑式，因为虽然在2009年10月实现了两架12米天线的干涉，但只有3架天线实现相位闭合才能消除大气挠动及仪器产生的误差，从而实现高分辨观测。
