自然界中，植物并不是孤立存在的，而是经常与其它的生物产生多种多样的相互作用。植物与植物之间通过地上和地下部分产生的挥发物，以及利用根际分泌物进行互作已经得到了较深入的研究。近些年的研究表明，寄生植物与寄主植物间可以通过吸器，这一个特殊的器官，进行物质与信号交流；此外，丛枝菌根真菌的菌丝也能够在地下连接不同的宿主植物的根，通过庞大的菌根网络在不同的宿主植物间传递信号。
