中山大学历史人类学研究中心成立于1986年10月，2001年1月重新组建，现任中心主任为陈春声教授。历史人类学是战后新史学发展的重要趋势，其特色是把人类学的田野调查、“参与体验”的方法与历史学的文献训诂、考据、文本解读等方法结合起来，重视普通人日常生活的历史。中心成立是在历史学系、人类学系共同合作的基础上，跨学科的交流体现，对促进学科间发展有着长远和积极的作用。
