为了更深入地了解凝聚态物理前沿发展动向，更好地将基础研究推广到材料应用中去，2014年4月26至28日固体所物质科学计算研究室举办了“2014年凝聚态物理前沿问题学术研讨会”，研讨会上，计算室从海外新引进的三位科技精英杨勇、张永胜和雷华平先后做了学术报告。
2014年4月23日，应中国科学院合肥物质科学研究院固体物理研究所邀请，中国科学院院士、清华大学材料科学与工程研究院院长南策文教授做客凝聚态物理前沿论坛，并作了题为《介观尺度上组合设计：发掘新材料/新功能》的学术报告。报告会由固体所副所长孟国文主持，所长蔡伟平向南策文院士颁发了特聘研究员证书。
