据日本共同社报道，日本筑波大学计算科学研究中心2009年8月17日宣布，该中心使用超级计算机计算出圆周率小数点后25769.8037亿位数，创下新的世界纪录。此前的纪录为小数点后12411亿位，2002年由东京大学和日立制作所的共同研究小组计算得出。新纪录提高到2倍以上。筑波大学已于8月10日申报吉尼斯世界纪录。
